Yes, yes, still working on the Briar Rose sequel, and other story ideas keep shooting out of my brain as I finish the revisions. Not sure where I stand on the whole crossover thing, but I thought I would give it a little try, at least on a drabble level. The trick is, the reader has to be a fan of both things to truly appreciate the crossover, so it's hard to make something that's necessarily going to appeal to people. As a super-nerd, I decided if I'm going to try it, I'll try it with one of my other favorite stories: Akira. If you're not familiar with the story, you probably will just say "huh?" - not sure if I should put this one up on the Teaspoon or not. Probably will, though.

The Doctor slid his motorcycle to a sideways stop outside the unfinished Olympic stadium, dragging his boot on the street to keep his balance, and then removed his goggles. There was a surging pile of screaming flesh and metal rising from the center of the stadium, surrounded by three shriveled little kids floating in midair. Neo Tokyo burned in the distance.

“Nah,” the Doctor said, putting his goggles back on and kicking the motorcycle back into gear. “This is too messed up, even for me.”

He drove back towards the TARDIS, a streak of white light on a desolate highway.

Weird to comment on my own post, but I wanted to add this addendum: you REALLY have to know Akira to get it. Yeah. I've seen that movie a billion times. Perhaps I need to find more hobbies. :b

Okay, yes, commenting on my own post again, but if you have not seen Akira and have the SLIGHTEST inclination to want to watch it, for the love of GOD and all that's holy, please either watch it in the original Japanese or the Pioneer 2001 English re-dub. Do NOT, under any circumstances, watch the 1988 English dub, done by Canadian actors who did not bother to learn how the Japanese characters' names should be properly pronounced. Plus, there's a guy in the '88 dub that sounds too much like Louie Anderson for anyone's good.
