As I am still relatively new to Livejournal, I have some questions that I thought my homies could answer for me, so I don't have to keep googling things and feeling like a twit. There are terms on here that people use, and I don't know what they  mean. I mean, I can gather contextually what they generally  mean, but I'm a sucker for the precise definition of a word. Silly, I know. Okay, here are a few. If you know of any others I might not have come across or mentioned yet, please let me know:
Flist - I have gathered this is short for "Friends List" - yes?
Shipping - I'm lost. Shipping to me is putting it in a brown box and sending it UPS
OTP - I'm down with OPP and I've listened to ODB, but I do not know OTP. Help.
Crack - I have assumed this means addictive like crack, but I am starting to think there might be another, deeper meaning. Or I'm just a git.

That's all I can think of for now. In my defense, I will remind that the title of my journal does have the word "hermit" in it, and that's not just because it's clever. :) Thanks, homies.

Flist = friends list. You will also see "flisties" and "flisters".

Shipping = thinking two characters should be together. I ship Rose/Doctor, but I don't condemn anyone for shipping Doctor/Master or Doctor/River. :P

OTP: one true pairing. In a given fandom, you might have an otp, that One Pairing that you love above all else. For example, my otp seems to be Nine/Rose -- though any Doctor and Rose is awesome. Some people are very intense about their Otp and won't look at anything else.

OT3: One true threesome, ie Doctor/Rose/Jack, or, say, Harry/Ron/Hermione.

Crack: it is addictive yes, but it is more or less crazy. A crack premise is like "Strayman is really the Doctor!!" You can still make it work even if the premise is crack. Or the whole story might be crack and people will still love it, like "the Tardis is actually Delirium of the Endless!!!" :P

OT3 clarification... It can also refer to a family unit or true friends. It isn't always sexual, but usually is. Other common DW. OT3 is a combo of the doctors with Rose, like Nine/Ten/Rose or Ten/Cloen/Rose. The Loved!Verse is the gold standard of that particular combo IMHO. I just can't bring myself to write it... Talk about blushing... I blush when I write the Doctor and Rose together. Imagine throwing another one in!

Yep, what they said. First thing that came to mind when "crack" was this epic fic, inspired by all the times my husband makes fun of my stories. So, example ahoy!

THEN ROSE SAID TO THE DOCTOR "DOCTOR, I DON'T THINK WE CAN DO THIS ALONE!" THEN THE DOCTOR SAID "YOU'RE RIGHT ROSE WE NEED HELP!" THEN FIVE FLY YOUNG MEN CRASHED THROUGH THE DOOR AND SAID "DID SOMEONE CALL 'N SYNC?!" ROSE WAS SO EXCITED BUT THE DOCTOR SAID "NO WE CAN'T HANDLE IT ALONE! WE NEED MORE HELP!" THEN MULDER AND SCULLY CAME IN AND MULDER SAID, "I WANNA BELIEVE SCULLY BUT HOW CAN I BELIEVE?" THE DOCTOR WAS PLEASED BUT ROSE SAID "BUT WAIT! DON'T WE NEED BUFFY AND ANGEL TO HELP TOO?" SO BUFFY AND ANGEL SWUNG IN BRINGING THE BACKSTREET BOYS IN AND FINALLY DUMBLEDORE AND SNAPE CAME IN ASKING "WTF ARE ALL OF YOU DOING IN OUR CASTLE?!?!?" AND THEN THE DOCTOR AND ROSE MADE OUT. A LOT. THE UNIVERSE IS FOR RAPTORS NOW!

Thank you for the help, including the homies cross-reference. I've noticed by posting on livejournal that I have much more of an "urban" edge to my casual conversation than I ever realized. The town where I live is the second largest city in Illinois...or one of the big ones...not far from Chicago. At any rate, there's enough urban around these parts to give my casual dialect a bit of a gangsta lean. Hilarious, if you knew what an Anglophilic nerd I am. :)

Well, like everyone else has said Flist: Friends List; Shipping: relationship ficcing/reading, generally of one type of relationship, or of one specific realtionship (you 'ship' Rose and Ten for instance); OTP: One True Pairing (the ship you'd go down with, lol!); Crack: Addictive yes, but generally meaning deliberate bad!fic or silliness...it covers a lot of terms actually. *Scratches head*

Hope that helped - and hey, we all hit 'wtf' moments when we first came onto LJ. I still have them and I've been here for YEARS, lol!

I had originally got the definition of crack as in cracked glass, which distorts and warps even the most benign stuff into the REALLY weird and of course the popular addictive aspects we all acknowledge.

Oh you made me grin just now!!! My late mother used to partake of the box wine, and used that exact term to describe herself while doing it. It's not bad stuff, really. *happy sigh* She was fantastic. :) :) *yay*
