I just saw the clip of the latest insult George Lucas has added to the symphony of garbage he has fashioned out of the original Star Wars movies, and I just feel sad. Why does he keep changing these movies? They have gone from being a cornerstone in my movie library to something I'm ashamed to even admit I like anymore. Ever since the "re-imagining" in the mid 90s, I have just been sad and a little nauseous.

Has the man completely lost touch with reality? Why can't he do something original, instead of tinkering with movies that were classics until they are nothing but gooey, glurgey, self-mocking tragedies of the modern age? ARGH! *kicks something*

I can understand cleaning up the visuals to make them DVD-friendly. Enhance the audio? Sure! But adding scenes, changing WHO SHOT FIRST?!?!?! Is he out of his MIND? Somebody needs to take these moves away from him and tell him to stop. I had the original Star Wars memorized - we had an 8-track that had the whole audio track of the movie, and my brother and I would listen to it over and over again. I LOVE the original movies, and every time he brings something new out, I'm just saddened and appalled. And it's not that I'm a conservative person - quite the contrary - but damn! If it's not broken, don't fix it.

It would be like colorizing Citizen Kane. Or a full-color, shot-by-shot remake of Psycho with modern actors for no good reason (oh...wait...), or, God forbid, changing the end of The Doctor's Daughter so the Doctor blew the guy's head off instead of walking away. Once it's done and out there, walk away and let it be what it's going to be. ESPECIALLY if it's a phenomenal success like Star Wars.

This post doesn't make much sense, but it's the virtual equivalent of  "what? What!? WHAT?!!?!??"

Ugh, I just went to the link. "No"??????? Like that would make the movie any more powerful?

I just can't understand it. I think the "No" just makes Darth Vader less menacing, and why do that? He was awesome in his silence. Sigh.

Exactly! The inner struggle was implied, and didn't have to be spelled out. BTW, love the "Do not like" graphic. Quite apropos. :D

I haven't seen any of the tinkered versions. Maybe it's just the kid in me but I don't want to. My family are a bunch of sci fi geeks and Star Wars was like a bonding moment. I remember as a kid (way back when) seeing the first Star Wars film with my family at the drive in. Yes, I have dated myself here. Sigh. Anyway, I remember the last one as well as the first - it was a father/daughter thing so no, I don't like the "no" Sort of takes away from the moment.

Part of what makes Darth, Darth is the quiet menace. Shakes head in wonder why he did this.

I wish I'd never seen them, because they just ruined a bit of my childhood. Should've kept it pure. I'm glad we have the original originals on VHS so we can still watch them.

The "no" completely stinks - doesn't Lucas see how that opens the character up to ridicule? Darth Vader - ominous dark lord of the Sith...now with the emotional flim flam better suited to "Titanic". Ugh. Glad he never got his hands on Doctor Who, I'm just sayin.
